ABOUT Georgios
Georgios Babanis, born in Volos, Magnesia, in 1989, discovered his passion for music at the age of nine, beginning with piano and music theory lessons. Raised in Trikala, he graduated from the Trikala Music High School, where he encountered a wealth of musical influences, including his first exploration of the accordion. His studies at the Music School and Academy laid a solid foundation in music theory and sparked a lifelong dedication to artistic growth.
In 2007, Georgios began studying Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. During this transformative time, he met renowned accordionist Iraklis Vavatsikas, who became his mentor for over a decade at the F. Nakas Music Academy, guiding him through classical accordion studies. His strong willing for progress cemented Georgios’ dual devotion to mechanical engineering and music, two distinct yet harmonious aspects of his life.
As a professional musician, Georgios has immersed himself in the rich realms of folk, traditional, and classical music. He has performed on numerous television and radio programs with broad audiences and participated in tributes honoring legendary composers and performers, such as Vassilis Tsitsanis, Giorgos Zambetas, Vasilis Dimitriou, Stavros Kazantzidis, and Christos Nikolopoulos. His collaborations span an impressive array of celebrated artists, including Rita Antonopoulou, Christos Thivaios, Melina Aslanidou, Giannis Ploutarchos, Dimitris Karasavvidis, Foteini Dara, Miltos Paschalidis, Haris Alexiou, Fotini Velesiotou, Stamatis Kraounakis, Themis Adamantidis, Kaiti Garbi, and many others.
Georgios has also made contributions to the recording industry, featuring on albums with Themis Adamantidis, Giannis Ploutarchos, Stamatis Kraounakis, Kaiti Garbi, Sofia Papazoglou, Christos Papadopoulos, and Konstantinos Nikolopoulos. He contributed to the soundtrack of the acclaimed film The Bridegrooms of Happiness and has performed extensively as a member of the Vassilis Tsitsanis Orchestra.
In the world of theater and musicals, Georgios has taken on pivotal roles as a solo accordionist. Noteworthy productions include The Life of Edith Piaf with Milly Karalis, The Fiddler on the Roof with Grigoris Valtinos at the Badminton Theater, and the Victor Victoria with Evelina Papoulia and Giannis Zouganelis.
His theoretical expertise is equally impressive, encompassing advanced piano studies, a degree in Harmony, and ongoing work toward a classical accordion diploma under the tutelage of Iraklis Vavatsikas at the F. Nakas Conservatory.
Since relocating to Brussels four years ago, Georgios has been serving as an Officer at the European Commission while continuing to perform music part-time. His artistic journey reflects a deep commitment to his craft and a unique ability to merge the technical and the creative, making him a distinctive voice in the world of music and beyond.
